Pirate and privateer Jean Lafitte operated out of the Gulf of Mexico in the early 19th century with his brother Pierre. The two had a very successful operation in New Orleans and Barataria Bay. Governor of Louisiana and fun-killer, Thomas B. Robertson, offered a $500 reward for Lafitte’s arrest.
